               BUILD III Annual Conference
                       "TEAMS IN ACTION"
 Livingston Parish hosted its 3rd annual BUILD Conference on Saturday, August 23rd.  The theme of the day was “Universal Design for Learning in the K-12 Classroom: Practical Strategies for Change”.  Twenty-three schools in the district attended this event as a team.  The day was filled with team building activities.  The keynote speaker for the day was Skip Stahl from CAST.  The team learned strategies to implement UDL in the K-12 classrooms, construct UDL lesson plans, and resources for UDL lesson design.

Family Resource Center

Livingston Parish Public Schools celebrated the opening of the new Family Resource Center (FRC) with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on September 8th.  The FRC  is located in room 165 of the Literacy and Technology Center, located at 9261 Florida Blvd, near Walker.

Goal:

Provide resources that will assist, guide, and support families with their child’s education and promote family engagement.

Services:

  • Education materials for loan
    (Ages Pre-K – 12)
  • Workbooks/worksheets on skills taught in the classroom
  • Special needs information
  • Workshops/training
  • ACT Prep materials and workshops

“A family is a child’s first and most important teacher.”



NEWS:
Mrs. Demariou Poole and Mrs. Jenny Barclay will be presenting at the CEC Conference in Lafayette on January 30th.  The presentation will be on a district approach to providing BUILD/Inclusion professional developement for schools.
